ABBA The Album was released in Sweden and the rest of Scandinavia on December 12th 1977.
Advance orders for this album were very impressive: 600,000 in Sweden alone.
The Album showed a more sophisticated ABBA with more complex melodies and lyrics and a flirt with musicals by putting three musicaltracks on the B-side. A very odd choice for a pop album but ABBA got away with it.
Mats Olsen of Expressen newspaper in Sweden wrote: 'If you compare this with older songs like So Long or Hasta Manana it is hard to believe that it's the same group'.
These pics show ABBA in the old town of Stockholm and in the studio in the summer of 1977.
